Mission Beach is a narrow stretch of sand between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. Mission Beach is full of beach breaks-- from PB Drive on the north end to the notorious left point break at South Misson Jetty. The sandbars are always shifting to take on northwest to southwest swells, so there’s always a little something for everyone. On the rare occasion there is no surf, Mission Beach is a great place to people-watch. As one of San Diego’s only beaches that permit alcohol, Mission Beach is a busy, social place. Skateboarders, girls, bicyclists, fruit-booters, all-out freaks, and local legends the Flash and Slo Mo flow constantly from north to south along Mission Beach’s famous boardwalk.

Centrally located in this idyllic setting is Liquid Foundation, Mission Beach’s only real surf shop. Founded in Mission Beach in 1991, Liquid Foundation remains true to its core clientele — local surfers. At least half of the shop’s square footage is devoted to boards, and the other half stocks only the best surf equipment and accessories from the industry’s top labels including Anarchy, Angel, ANON, Cobian, Creatures of Leisure, DaKine, Dragon, DSO, Freestyle, Hoven, Jen, Reef, Ocean Minded, Spy Optic, SRH, and X-TRAK, among others. Liquid Foundation even carries its own brand of Liquid Foundation clothing and accessories, which bear the exclusive Liquid Foundation and LF logos. With such a focus on authenticity, it is no surprise that Liquid Foundation boasts an elite team of riders and is noted as having “the highest good-surfer to shop square-footage in San Diego.” You can catch the LF guys ripping wherever it’s breaking in San Diego—especially at the Jetty when it’s going off.
