Boardbags

Liquid Foundation Surf » Accessories » Boardbags

Surf travel is getting cheaper and boards are getting more expensive. It's a good idea to protect your board so you can keep exploring every point and A-frame you find on Google Earth. Hence, the board bag. Board bags are hands-down the best way to protect your boards. Put your board in a bag to safeguard it from dings during travel, keep your wax from melting, and prevent your board from yellowing. You’ll want to choose a bag designed for your particular board’s size and intended travel distance.

Board socks are basically a modified towel that fits around your board, with a drawstring or other closure at one end. True, your mom could make one, but then she'll be too busy to take you and your salt-crusted friends to the beach. And, sadly, it wouldn't be cool to roll out to your local break with a board sock made from your old Spider Man sheets. They’ll keep your board from getting scratched, but aren’t really padded, so just use socks for one-board, local (i.e.: auto) travel. Board socks won’t really keep your wax job from melting, either.

Like board socks, a day bag also fits a single board, but is lightly padded for more protection. Use day bags to protect your board from scratches and dings and to provide an extra layer between your board and your roof rack. Most day bags will keep your board insulated from the sun and your wax job intact. When choosing your day bag, you’ll want to pick the size that matches your board type.

Travel bags are thickly padded to protect your board for airline travel. Some travel bags allow you to store more than one board at a time. Models with wheels make it easy to move around the airport. Board coffins are made of thick plastic with padding on the inside and wheels to get around, kind of like a guitar case. Obviously, coffins provide the most protection, but their bulk is inconvenient. Use one for air travel only.
