Surf LeashesLiquid Foundation Surf » Accessories » Surf Leashes A leash is an important component of your surf equipment. Leashes connect you and your board, allowing you to recover your board faster and easier if you lose control. This means longer sessions and less damage to your board, as well as less chance that your renegade board will injure other surfers. Most importantly, since your board also acts as your flotation device when necessary, leashes protect you by keeping your board close. Leashes are comprised of a urethane cord with a Velcro ankle cuff on one end and a Velcro strap to attach to your board’s leash cup (usually a metal rod built into the deck of your board) on the other. When choosing your leash, pick one that is at least as long as your board. A thicker leash cord means a stronger leash, but it also means more drag in the water. Beginners will want to use a thicker cord, and experienced surfers should try something thinner. Most leashes have swivels on the cord ends to keep your leash from tangling. Some even have key pockets in the ankle cuff, to stash your keys while you surf. Quick-release and rail-saver leash features are also worth a look. A quick release leash can literally be a lifesaver when unknown hazards tangle you up. Rocks, lobster trap lines, and sunken pirate ships can be an enemy of the conventional leash, so when you surf the Point, Mav's, or Shipwrecks, be sure you're equipped to make it back to the surface after getting tumbled. Liquid Foundation has a wide selection of leashes for all skill levels.
