Traction
Liquid Foundation Surf » Accessories » Traction Progressive surfing calls for skillful maneuvers and quick response. Traction pads accomplish just that, allowing a heightened sense of connection and control between surfer and board, while eliminating a waxy back foot. Traction pads are created from thermoformed EVA, which is then stuck to the top of your board. Traction pads have a contoured top surface to allow a surfer’s foot to grip the board. An arch bar molds to the bottom of the foot, and kick pads at the back provide leverage as well as heightened awareness of foot placement. Generally, traction pads are sold in multiple pieces, allowing you to customize pad placement to your own sweet spots. Traction is typically used with shortboards, although some manufacturers also make pads for longboards. You may only use a full deck traction pad if your name is McNamara and you surf pipe. Otherwise, you have officially invited older locals to tie you up in saran wrap and duct tape and leave you in the shaping room during the best swell of the summer.
